Overview
Most pond problems trace back to one thing: a pump or filter sized for the hole that was dug rather than the water that ended up in it, or a liner that was never going to survive the roots and stones it was laid over. We dig to the levels the planting and fish stocking actually need, bed the liner on sand or underlay rather than straight onto subsoil, and size the pump and filtration to the finished volume before anything gets filled.
A wildlife pond wants shelving, marginal planting and a shallow beach edge so hedgehogs and birds can get in and out of it. An ornamental koi pond wants depth, a proper biological filter and UV clarification to keep the water clear. A raised formal pond or a bubbling urn wants none of that and a great deal more care over the finish. We build all three, and the survey is where we tell you honestly which one your garden and your maintenance appetite actually suit.

What it costs.
Ranges, not quotes. Access, levels, drainage and ground conditions move these numbers in both directions, and only the survey settles it. We publish them so you can sanity-check anyone else's figure before you agree to it.

Ponds & Water Features FAQs
Worth knowing first.
Bigger than you think you want, within reason. A small volume of water heats up and fouls faster in summer than a larger one, which means more algae and more work keeping it clear. For a wildlife pond we look for at least 5m² with a shallow shelf and a deeper section below frost line. For koi, depth matters more than surface area — 1.2m minimum so the fish have somewhere to sit out a hot spell or a hard winter.
Almost never for a garden pond within your own boundary — it falls under permitted development the same as a patio or a flower bed. That changes only if the property is listed, the pond sits within a few metres of a highway, or you are in a flood zone with drainage conditions attached. We check your address at the survey, before anything is dug.
A well-built wildlife pond looks after itself for most of the year: an autumn net to keep leaves out, and a spring clear-out of the worst silt. An ornamental or koi pond wants more — filter media rinsed monthly, UV bulbs replaced yearly, and water tested through summer. The size of the pump and filter we install is what decides which of those two lives you end up with.
Usually, yes. Access is the constraint — a mini digger gets most back gardens dug out without lifting a fence panel, and spoil goes straight into a skip rather than across the lawn. Established planting and paving nearby are worked around rather than through. We tell you at the survey exactly what has to move and what does not.
Not on its own, no. Where that is a concern we fit a galvanised safety grille just below the water line, rigid enough to take a child's weight and invisible once the pond is planted up. It costs a fraction of the pond itself and is the one addition we will not talk a family with young children out of.
Reviews
Customer reviews for Total Landscaping Services
In their words.
“Had TLS come out to do a decking job at our place in Bracknell. Communication was spot on from the first message right through to the job finishing — always kept us in the loop on timings. Turned up when they said they would, got the decking done to a great standard, and left the garden tidy afterwards. Fair price too. Would definitely use Total Landscaping Services again and recommend them to anyone in the Bracknell area.”
